Three Questions with Bird Kuhn
Mar 19, 2020 | Volleyball
What are your thoughts on the volleyball team's 2020 spring season ending the way it did?
"While this isn't ideal, we have all come to realize that this situation is bigger than volleyball/sports. Of course we are disappointed and working through steps moving forward with our team. There are plenty of ways to grow during this unique time. Self-discipline and motivation are two of the things we have talked to our team about during this first week away from each other. Staying connected and communicating is our main focus right now. We have such a special group and getting on a team conference call last week was highly entertaining. It is fun to get all the personalities 'together' even if it is virtual."
What did you tell your team?
"We always talk about our 'response' to each other, to challenges, to coaching, to media, etc. This is another opportunity for all of us to grow in how we respond to our given circumstances. Find ways to improve and grow people. The appreciation we will have when we are together again will be so impactful! I already miss being around everyone."
What are you doing with your time?
"I have been doing household maintenance! Time spent at home has been very rare, so I am catching up on repairs, yard work, etc. Walking my dog and working out has never seemed so productive! In some ways, this feels like a period of time to figure out what my/our priorities in life really are. Figuring out how to keep our players engaged and connected. Invest in family and friends. My mom was here for over a week during spring break, and that time may have been the most memorable in years for us."
