2019 Schedule set for Texas A&M Softball

Nov 07, 2018 | Softball

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M softball showcases its newly finished-stadium, Davis Diamond, with 38 home games as well as the 2019 Southeastern Conference Tournament.

The Aggies face a daunting schedule that features 34 games against 15 teams that made the NCAA postseason and nine games against teams that made the Women's College World Series a year ago.

"I think it's really important for our players and our fans to understand that some of these names that they're not as familiar with were playing in the NCAA Tournament last season," head coach Jo Evans said. "These are teams that are out of our region that give us a chance to have that experience against post-season teams. As young as we are, we're going to need to have that kind of competition. I'm excited about it."

The Maroon & White open SEC play at home against LSU March 8-10 and host conference series with Alabama (March 22-24), Florida (April 12-14) and Arkansas (April 27-29).

On the road, Texas A&M faces Auburn (March 15-17), Georgia (April 5-7), Missouri (April 18-20) and Tennessee (May 3-5).

The Aggies open the season with the Aggie Classic Feb. 8-10, which features Cal Baptist, North Texas and Northern Colorado. Following a midweek game against Prairie View A&M, who the Aggies faced in the NCAA College Station Regional last season, on Feb. 13, Texas A&M welcomes Liberty, McNeese and Rutgers for the Texas A&M Invitational Feb. 15-17.

"We're so fortunate to have Davis Diamond. Now it's a reality," Evans added. "What I want to make sure is that we never take that for granted. We understand that it's a tremendous privilege to have a facility like this. I'm constantly reminding our team to be appreciative of what we have and everything that went into it. It is a really great feeling to move into your forever house and to make this our home and our everyday space."

Following the season-opening homestand, the Aggies head west to Cathedral City, California, for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic (Feb. 21-23). In California, the Aggies face Cal Poly and Nebraska, as well as three Pac 12 foes who advanced to the WCWS last year in Arizona State, Oregon and UCLA.

"Anytime we go to the Mary Nutter Classic, they don't hesitate to make sure we get the opportunity to play the best teams in the country," Evans stated. "That's good for us. We need that. We need to see what it's going to feel like when we get into SEC play and it'll give us a good gauge of what improvements we need to make."

Texas A&M closes out February with a midweek road contest on Feb. 27 at Houston, before returning home for the Texas A&M Invite Mar. 1-3, featuring Lamar, Longwood and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.

The Maroon & White host home midweek games against UTA (Mar. 6), Sam Houston State (Mar. 13) and SFA (Mar. 20), and battle BYU on Mar. 29 & 30 during the off week in conference play. In April, Texas Southern and Incarnate Word travel to Aggieland for midweek doubleheaders on Apr. 2 and Apr. 24, respectively.

Texas A&M hosts the SEC Tournament from May 8-11, with NCAA Regionals scheduled to take place at campus sites May 17-19, followed by NCAA Super Regionals May 23-26.

The Women's College World Series runs from May 30-June 5 at the newly-renovated USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium – OGE Energy Field in Oklahoma City.
